Shaoyang completed his postgraduate studies in the Department of Engineering at Durham University in November 2025, graduating with a Postgraduate Diploma. He earned his B.Eng. degree in Electronic Engineering from Royal Holloway University of London in 2024. His final project, supervised by Roy, investigated the feasibility of supporting surface plasmon polariton modes on ITO-coated glass surfaces at 2.4 GHz using metamaterial technology. His research particularly focused on metamaterial line branching mechanisms for multiple direction and redirection of electromagnetic signals, with applications in wireless communication systems.
